The Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM), in partnership with the ICT Association of Malawi (ICTAM), is set to host a one-day Artificial Intelligence (AI) training workshop in Blantyre on Wednesday, 18 June 2025.
The event, to be held at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel, is aimed at equipping professionals in marketing, ICT, and other sectors with practical skills in AI, automation, and data analytics. The workshop is themed “Leveraging on Technology: Using AI in Our Business Processes.”
Organisers say the training is part of a broader effort to promote digital transformation and strengthen Malawi’s capacity in data-driven business practices, in line with the country’s Vision 2063.
IMM and ICTAM describe the workshop as the first step in a series of joint initiatives to boost digital competencies across various sectors.
Dr Wisely Phiri, CEO of Sparc Systems and President of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, will lead the training alongside Jones Kumchenga, an AI developer and software innovation lead at NICO Technologies.
Dr Phiri is widely recognised for his role in advancing technology adoption across African markets, while Mr Kumchenga is known for his expertise in AI applications and software development.
Speaking ahead of the event, IMM’s Director of Communications, Daniel Ngwira, said the training comes at a time when organisations are increasingly turning to digital tools to improve service delivery and competitiveness.
“AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s already transforming decision-making and the way we work,” said Ngwira.
ICTAM Vice President Moses Dossi added that the training will help ensure professionals are well-placed to apply AI in practical ways that benefit the local economy.
“This collaboration ensures that business and ICT professionals are not only adapting to technological change, but actively leading it,” he said.
The workshop is open to members of the public, including SMEs, students and professionals from various sectors. Registration is available through the IMM Secretariat via email (imm@imm.mw) or by phone on +265 991 008 388.
